"If I die.. I can be replaced..." - Rei Ayanami

Rei Ayanami is a character who is from the anime called "Neon Genesis Evangelion". She is born on March 30, making her Zodiac Sign an Aries (The Ram). And she will be my Mascot for this Website of mine, "Moonlit Ayanami".

She is a 14 Year Old who is a quiet, introverted, and a detached emotionless girl who is the First Child of taking the Pilot of Evangelion Unit-0. In her true nature, she is a clone who is supposed to be a lab rat created by Gendo Ikari and his colleague Kozo Fuyutsuki. More information can be here for her origins/history down below this shrine.

"Wait.. Rei Ayanami is a clone?" Yes, Rei is indeed a clone. She is an artificial human that is again, created by Gendo Ikari and Kozo Fuyutsuki. She doesn't have any relatives or parents of her, as she is made in a lab. And she is also made to be a tool for the Human Instrumentality Project.

The reason why she is considered a clone is because this goes to the timeline of the year 2004. This goes to the year in which a scientist named Yui Ikari (who is Shinji Ikari's Mother) did a Science Contact Experiment on Evangelion Unit-1. This caused a major accident and then caused her (Yui Ikari) to vanish, which is now a permanent soul to Unit-1 (or Unit-1's Core). This turned Gendo and Kozo to try to bring her back, but after multiple attempts to bring Yui back to life again, it is considered a failed task, probably because she chose to stay in Unit-1 forever.

Because of Gendo's Grief and Trauma on his "deceased" Wife, he then plans the Human Instrumentality Project to reunite with Yui. And then Gendo collects her DNA remains from Unit-1 and uses the Second Angel's DNA named Lilith to create the clone(s), Rei Ayanami.

Her name, Rei Ayanami, comes from a Japanese meaning.

Her first name, Rei, can have multiple meanings depending on its context of it. It could mean Zero (零), that could represent her role for piloting Evangelion Unit-0. It could also mean a Spirit or a Ghost (霊), which might also mean her true nature of her DNA, the Angel Lilith. This can also foreshadow what actually happened to Rei at the End of Evangelion, where she acts as a role of bringing back humanity as a reset to a place of absolute nothingness (or Zero for that matter).

Her last name, Ayanami, can be separated into 2 meanings. Aya (緂) means twilled, patterned, or design, and Nami (波) means wave or waving. those japanese letters combined or Ayanami (緂波) will mean "Twilled or Patterned Waves".
